Photos
In short. Take clinical photos inside Case Logbook, never in your phone’s gallery. Each photo is scrambled on your phone before it leaves. It lands on its case, by two taps or by itself when the time fits. You find every photo again by procedure, body region and date, and you can show a patient their own photos, or cleared copies to others, with consent recorded. See where your data lives for the rest.
Three promises
- Your gallery stays clean. Photos taken in Case Logbook never appear in your phone’s photo app.
- Nothing is deleted for you. A photo you have not filed waits in Photos to file, in your Inbox, until you file it, keep it in your Teaching file, or delete it.
- Nothing is shown without you. Photos reach anyone other than their own patient only when consent covers it and you have cleared the photo for showing.
Filing is quick. A photo taken inside a case goes straight to that case. Photos from Capture wait in Photos to file with a suggestion. Auto-sort and Hand to assistant can file photos on their own when the time fits the case’s operating times, and Filed automatically lists them with an Undo.
Who can see your photos
Only you. Each photo is scrambled on your phone, with a key that only your backup password can unlock, before it leaves the phone. It is stored as a scrambled file in photo storage at Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Mumbai. Our server and the storage provider hold files they cannot open. They never get the picture, where it was taken, the camera, the file name, or your Teaching file region and note.
The server knows only bookkeeping: which case a photo is on, when it was taken, whether your assistant took it, and whether consent was recorded. Patient names on the photo view, body regions and filters are worked out on your phone. A new phone signed in with your backup password opens all your photos, so there is nothing extra to back up.
The marks you confirm, your Album titles and your teaching notes are scrambled the same way. The server also keeps bookkeeping for clearing and sharing: when you cleared a photo, which photos are in which Album and in what order, and that a share happened (when, how many photos, as images or a contact sheet). It never knows who received it. Everything else about names, voice and the agent is on where your data lives.
Consent
Each case records whether the patient consented to clinical photography, and you can make one standing declaration for your surgical consent form. What a photo may be used for depends on that consent. See consent.
